For the Cake:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk

For the Cinnamon Swirl:

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

For the Glaze:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 10-inch Bundt pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon for the swirl.
  7. Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared Bundt pan. Sprinkle the cinnamon swirl mixture evenly over the batter.
  8. Pour the remaining cake batter over the cinnamon swirl layer.
  9. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. For the glaze, in a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add more milk if needed to reach desired consistency.
  12. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cake.
  13. Slice and serve.

  • Buttermilk Substitute: Add 1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice or vinegar to 1 1/2 cups milk; let stand 5 minutes.
