Description
Recreate your favorite café-style chai tea latte at home with this incredibly easy recipe. Brew a rich chai concentrate and top with perfectly frothed milk for a warm, comforting beverage in minutes.
Ingredients
1 (any brand, caffeinated or decaf) chai tea bag
1–2 teaspoons (5-10g) granulated sugar, or to taste
1 cup (240ml) milk (2% dairy, non-dairy, or whole milk)
Instructions
- Place the chai tea bag in a measuring cup or small heat-proof mug.
- Pour 1/4 cup (60 ml) of freshly boiled water over the tea bag and let it steep for 5–7 minutes to make a strong concentrate.
- Remove the tea bag, gently squeezing out excess liquid, then stir in 1–2 teaspoons of sugar until fully dissolved.
- Pour 1 cup (240 ml) of your chosen milk into a small saucepan.
- Heat the milk over medium heat until steaming hot but not boiling, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat and vigorously whisk the milk, or use a handheld frother, for 1–2 minutes until light and foamy.
- Pour the chai concentrate into your serving mug.
- Slowly pour the warm milk over the chai, holding back the foam with a spoon, then spoon the foam on top.
- Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade chai tea latte.
Notes
For a stronger chai flavor, steep the tea bag for longer than 7 minutes.
To make this recipe dairy-free, use a plant-based milk like oat or soy milk.
The chai concentrate can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently before adding frothed milk.
