  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Fold in the diced apples and chopped nuts (if using).
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before frosting.
  10. For the Glaze:
  11. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  12. Stir in the milk and bring to a simmer.
  13. Remove from heat and whisk in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.
  14. Pour the glaze over the warm cake and let it set before serving.
