Description

This incredible Fried Cabbage recipe transforms simple cabbage into a sensational side dish bursting with savory flavor. Tender green cabbage is pan-fried with crispy chicken bacon, aromatic garlic, stone ground mustard, and a hint of smoky paprika, creating an irresistible dish that’s quick, economical, and utterly delicious.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium head Cabbage (approx. 900g / 2 lbs), thinly sliced or shredded
  • 46 strips Chicken Bacon, diced
  • 1 medium Onion (approx. 150g / 1 cup), finely chopped
  • 34 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Stone Ground Mustard (or Dijon mustard)
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika

Instructions

  1. Cook the bacon. Heat a large pan over medium heat and cook the diced chicken bacon until it’s perfectly crisp, then remove with a slotted spoon and set aside. Remove some bacon grease from the pan, leaving about two tablespoons.
  2. Cook the onion and garlic. Add the chopped onion to the same pan and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes. Then add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  3. Sauté the cabbage. Add the thinly sliced cabbage and sauté until tender and slightly brown, about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Add remaining ingredients. Stir in the stone ground mustard and smoked paprika, mixing well to combine. Then crumble the reserved crispy chicken bacon on top. Serve immediately as a delicious side dish.

Notes

  • Cabbage Type: Green cabbage is recommended, but red cabbage also works well for a vibrant twist.
  • Spice Level: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or finely diced jalapeño with the onions for extra heat.
  • Vegetarian Option: Omit chicken bacon and use a high-heat cooking oil; consider adding smoked tofu for protein.
