Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (200g)
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar (50g)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (5ml)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg (2.5ml)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (1.25ml)
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (360g)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder (5ml)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda (2.5ml)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (1.25ml)
  • 1/2 cup eggnog (120ml)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (240g)
  • 1/4 cup eggnog (60ml)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (2.5ml)
  • Pinch of ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the eggnog, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Drop by rounded tablespoons onto the prepared baking sheets.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown.
  8. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. While the cookies are cooling, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, eggnog, vanilla extract, and nutmeg until smooth.
  10. Once the cookies are completely cool, dip the tops of the cookies into the glaze, allowing the excess to drip off. Place the glazed cookies back on the wire rack to allow the glaze to set.
  11. Let the glaze harden completely before serving. Store in an airtight container.
