Irresistible Salted Caramel Apple Bars for a perfect fall treat!


Ingredients

Crust:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 34 tablespoons ice water

Apple Filling:

  • 4 medium apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Salted Caramel:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt, or to taste

Instructions

  1. Crust: Whisk flour, sugar, salt. Cut in butter until crumbly. Add ice water until dough forms. Chill 30 mins.
  2. Apple Filling: Combine apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice.
  3. Salted Caramel: Melt sugar until amber. Remove from heat, whisk in butter, then cream, then salt. Cool slightly.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch pan. Roll out dough, press into pan. Prick bottom.
  5. Pour apple filling over crust. Drizzle salted caramel over apples.
  6. Bake 35-40 mins, until golden. Cool completely before cutting.

  • Apple Variety: Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Fuji apples work best.
