Transform firm tofu into a golden, crunchy, and irresistibly sticky-sweet dish with this easy honey garlic recipe. It’s a plant-based marvel that’s quick, healthy, and packed with flavor!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 block (400g) firm tofu, pressed and cubed
- 1/2 cup (60g) cornstarch
- 1/4 cup (60ml) vegetable oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/3 cup (80ml) honey
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon (5g) grated ginger
- 2 green onions, sliced
- 1 tablespoon (8g) sesame seeds
Instructions
- Press tofu for 30 minutes to remove excess water, then cut into 1-inch cubes.
- Toss tofu cubes in cornstarch until evenly coated.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Fry tofu cubes for 3-4 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium and add minced garlic. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and grated ginger. Stir and simmer for 2-3 minutes until sauce thickens slightly.
- Return crispy tofu to the skillet and toss gently to coat with the sauce.
- Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
Notes
- Pressing Tofu: This is crucial for crispiness. Don’t skip it!
- Frying in Batches: Avoid overcrowding the pan to ensure even crisping.
- Sauce Adjustment: If sauce is too thick, add a splash of water; if too thin, simmer longer.
- Gluten-Free Option: Use tamari instead of soy sauce.
