Description
Experience a delightful, low-carb twist on burgers with this easy recipe. Savory ground beef patties are perfectly baked on tender cabbage slices, topped with gooey cheese for a comforting and healthy meal.
Ingredients
1 head of green cabbage, cut into 1-inch slices
1 pound (450g) of lean ground beef
1/2 cup (120ml) tomato sauce (or ketchup)
1/2 cup (60g) shredded cheese (mozzarella, Monterey Jack), divided
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon red chili pepper flakes
1 teaspoon grated garlic
1/2 cup (25g) chopped green onion
1/2 cup (15g) chopped parsley
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400ºF (200ºC). Arrange the cabbage slices on a rimmed sheet pan. Brush a little oil on the cabbage slices and season with salt and pepper.
Roast the cabbage slices in the oven for about 10 minutes so they get precooked – giving you a headstart to avoid overcooking the beef patties afterward.
In the meantime: In a large bowl, combine the lean ground beef with garlic, green onion, parsley, red chili pepper flakes, and half the cheese, salt, and pepper. Divide the mixture into four beef patties.
Remove cabbage from the oven, then spread a tablespoon of tomato sauce on top of each slice. Add a sprinkle of shredded cheese, then top with a beef pattie. Finally, sprinkle another layer of shredded cheese.
Bake the cabbage beef burgers in the oven for 10-12 minutes or until the burgers are done to your liking and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Sprinkle the baked cabbage burgers with fresh herbs and serve immediately. Enjoy! ❤️
Notes
Ensure not to overcrowd the baking sheet for even cabbage roasting. Use two pans if necessary.
Adjust red chili pepper flakes to your preferred spice level, or omit for a milder flavor.
Fresh herbs added at the end truly brighten the dish and enhance the overall aroma.
For meal prep, store cooked burgers in an airtight container for up to 4 days, or freeze for up to 2 months.
