Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • For the Cinnamon Sugar Crust:
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the apple cider, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread evenly.
  7. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. While the loaf is baking, prepare the cinnamon sugar crust. In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar and cinnamon.
  9. Once the loaf is out of the oven, let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
  10. Brush the top of the loaf with the melted butter, then sprinkle evenly with the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  11. Let the loaf cool completely before slicing and serving.
