- 3 pounds (approx. 1.36 kg) sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1/2 cup (approx. 120 ml) milk
- 1/4 cup (approx. 56g) unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 cup (approx. 50g) granulated sugar
For the Topping:
- 1 cup (approx. 120g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (approx. 200g) packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup (approx. 113g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 cup (approx. 100g) chopped pecans
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Boil the sweet potatoes until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain very well.
- In a large bowl, mash the sweet potatoes until smooth.
- Add the milk, melted butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, ginger, and granulated sugar to the mashed sweet potatoes. Mix until well combined.
- Pour the sweet potato mixture into the prepared baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour and brown sugar.
- Cut in the cold, cubed butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the chopped pecans.
- Sprinkle the topping evenly over the sweet potato mixture.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the casserole is heated through.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
