- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 8 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded
- 2 (10 ounce) packages frozen broccoli florets, thawed and chopped
- 1 cup bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup melted butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- In a large saucepan, melt 1/2 cup butter over medium heat. Sauté onion until softened.
- Stir in flour until smooth. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly. Cook until thickened, about 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in salt, pepper, and cheddar cheese until cheese is melted.
- Gently fold in the chopped broccoli.
- Pour mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In a small bowl, combine bread crumbs and 1/4 cup melted butter. Sprinkle over the broccoli mixture.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
