Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 (10 ounce) packages frozen broccoli florets, thawed and chopped
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a large saucepan, melt 1/2 cup butter over medium heat. Sauté onion until softened.
  3. Stir in flour until smooth. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly. Cook until thickened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in salt, pepper, and cheddar cheese until cheese is melted.
  5. Gently fold in the chopped broccoli.
  6. Pour mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  7. In a small bowl, combine bread crumbs and 1/4 cup melted butter. Sprinkle over the broccoli mixture.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
